HOW I COLLABORATE WITH PHOTOGRAPHERS TO GET THE SHOT
As a luxury wedding designer and planner, I love to design unique and romantic events, and to partner with amazing photographers to capture the design visions is one of utmost importance. I am a firm believer that without the right photographer, the essence of my designs will not come to life.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with some amazing photographers on some beautiful wedding designs and I hope to work with some more. I have learned a few things about communicating with your photographer to get the right shot. There is nothing worse than creating unique wedding designs and then having your photographer not be able to capture the details and the soul of the event. So whether you’re in the beginning stages or nearing the end of your wedding planning process, here are some of my tips on how to collaborate with your photographer to get THE shots for you. Trust me, you will not be disappointed!
HOW I COLLABORATE WITH MY PHOTOGRAPHERS TO GET THE SHOT
NO. 1: Communicate Expectations
Communication as we all know it is very important. Without communicating clear expectations of what you hope to achieve, it gets difficult to align with the vision. So I usually start by having a conversation with my photographer and we both communicate what we hope to achieve from our collaboration together. Remember it’s a collaboration, not an individual project. Working together helps both parties think more creatively and come up with unique ideas to make the project/event better.
NO. 2: Create a MoodBoard & a Shot List
I love moodboarding! It’s an amazing way to visually communicate your ideas to your photographer. A good moodboard done right helps both parties understand the vision of the event and the direction you’re going in. Also, it means you’ll be able to get the shot you need to elevate your portfolio.
NO. 3: Be Present on Event Day
Lastly, be present on EVENT DAY. I can’t stress this enough. I know as a planner and designer, especially if your team is small, it’s difficult to style, coordinate, and still be present when the photographer needs you. But if anything, checking in with your photographer should be on your priority list. Occasionally, I check in to make sure everything is going according to plan and if the photographer needs me or needs to clarify any of the shots that I need. Being present helps you limit any unexpected and unnecessary things that will eventually pop up. So take a step back, take everything in, and enjoy collaborating with your photographer to get the shot needed to take your work to the next level.
In conclusion, remember that you are the visionary behind your designs but you need your photographer’s help to capture the soul of your designs. So remember to collaborate and what you create will be magic!
